Getting to Know Your Registry
The Windows registry is a directory which stores settings and options for the operating system for Microsoft Windows 32-bit versions, 64-bit versions and Windows Mobile. It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, users, preferences of the PC, etc.
Why Registry Problems Occur
Whenever a user makes changes to Control Panel settings, file associations, system policies, or most installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in the registry. The registry also provides a window into the operation of the kernel, exposing runtime information such as performance counters and currently active hardware.
As you go on installing and uninstalling hardware and software, the registry tends to get filled with broken drivers, incomplete or empty command signals and unused applications. In due course, as the file sizes exceed the registry size limits, the registry tends to become highly fragmented and corrupt, leading to a decline in the performance of the computer. In a worst case scenario, problems within the registry could also cause the computer to crash.
For smooth and efficient operation of your computer it is critical that the computer’s registry should be clean and free of errors. While it is possible to scan and edit the registry manually, it can be extremely time-consuming and fraught with trials and tribulations. Moreover, you run the risk of exacerbating the existing problem and losing precious data if you do it incorrectly. Far better to use a good registry repair software, which will save you time and money as well as your computer- all this, at a click of a button.
How Registry Repair Software works
Simply put, it is a registry softwares job to seek out erroneous entries and eliminate them safely. You may be asking yourself "Why can't I do that myself?" In short, the answer is you can but i would take FOREVER and may result in data corruption and problems down the line.
Registry cleaning software goes through your registry line by line and removes entires which are no longer needed. These entries include but are not limited to:
- Old hardware entries - These items may no longer be in use. They are just wasting space and leading your machine to believe that they may still be needed.
- Obsolete Startup Items: These entries are often associated with software you may have removed or since stopped using. These items will often cause errors upon startup and must be removed carefully in order to prevent a potential problem.
- Obsolete software references: If you think that software you uninstalled is totally wiped from your machine think again! When you use the control panel to uninstall software, there are often entries left behind. Believe it or not these entries can indeed get in the way of your CURRENT working software.
- Invalid shortcuts: the registry contains references to shortcuts which may no longer exist. These references often confuse a user and can lead to unnecessary error messages. These too are removed by a quality registry cleaning software.
- Duplicate entries: Much like there may be duplicate files on your computer, there can be duplicate registry entries as well! These entries slow your down your overall computer performance and are completely unnecessary.
Before any changes are made a quality registry title will AUTOMATICALLY backup the entire registry as it was before it is repaired. This is done to insure that you have a WORKING copy as a backup in case of any future problems.
We honestly recommend RegCure for all of our registry maintenance needs. It fulfills all of the above requirements and is truly simple to use. Remember a free scan can often reveal unknown and often critical problems.
