The Windows registry is a directory which stores settings and options for the operating system for Microsoft Windows 32-bit versions, 64-bit versions and Windows Mobile. It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, users, preferences of the PC, etc.
Your computer would literally cease to operate without this vital information repository. Even a small registry error can turn into a potentially large problem. We have literally witnessed computers that fail to boot due to the overwhelming amount of errors in their registry.
Why Problems Occur Within the Registry
There are several reasons why problems could occur within the registry. Some of these include:
1. Changes to Control Panel settings
2. Changes to file associations
3. Changes to the system's policies
4. Changes to startup programs
5. Installation and Uninstallation of programs
6. Viruses and Spyware issues
Changes are effected within the registry whenever you uninstall existing software, install new software, delete files, use the chat program or create a new user. As you go on using your computer, new information is continually being added to the registry of your computer. Various unused keys, incorrect entries, invalid keys or adware and spyware keys can cause problems within the registry. It is important to carry out regular cleaning and maintenance of the computer in order to keep the computer running smoothly and efficiently

What can Registry Repair software do for me?
Registry Repair software can often perform a FULL registry backup and repair in under 10 minutes. Remember this is completely automated and requires absolutely no technical knowledge. These scans have been known to eliminate all types of computer problems mentioned above. Not all registry software is created equal though, see below for some more information.
Quality registry scanning software will have the following capabilities:
- Backup and Restore: You need peace of mind in knowing your software has backup and restore features. If you are using Vista or Windows XP, there are two ways for you to protect against accidents: system restore points and backup files. Meanwhile, if you are using Windows 2000 (SP4), Windows 98 (SE) or Windows ME, every time you remove a registry item a backup file is created.
- Invalid Program Shortcuts Repair: Incorrect program shortcuts can cause headaches! They could cause applications to take longer to launch or even stop them from working at all. RegCure finds and removes these incorrect shortcuts and improves your PC’s performance.
- Contains a Built-In Scheduler: If your software has a scheduling feature, you can just tell it when you want it to do its job, sit back and relax. You can set it to scan at system startup or assign it to work on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. You can even set up more than one schedule.
- Repairs Invalid Class Keys and Shell Extensions: Non-working class keys and shell extensions can seriously slow down your PC and cause frustrations. RegCure scans to find invalid entries and remove them.
- Detects and Repairs Empty Registry Keys: Useless registry keys have no value and actually are detrimental as they can clog up and slow down your system. RegCure sweeps away this mess.
- Allows for Automatic or Manual Repair: Your software should allow you to automatically scan for and repair problems. There should also be an option to take the power into your hands and manually guide the repair process.
- Organizes Windows Startup Items: With this feature, you can easily improve the startup speed of our PC. You can choose which programs you wish to launch when your computer starts and you can stop unneeded software from starting automatically. As well, RegCure will find and delete missing programs in the startup area of the Windows registry. These missing items can cause countless problems.
- Live Scan Progress: You never have to wonder what RegCure is doing! With an easy-to-use interface, you know exactly what is going on.
- Removes Invalid DLL Entries: Have you been to “DLL hell?” If not, you are lucky. Invalid entries in the dynamic link library section of the registry can cause frustrating application failures. Your software should restore and repair the registry.
- It should be Easy to Customize: It should allow you to scan only the items you want or you can establish and manage an “ignore list”. This will exclude certain items from removal.
Do not wait any longer, scanning your registry for 10 minutes today will save you hours and hours of frustration down the road.
