You Should Do a Windows Registry Scan If These Problems Sound Familiar...
If your computer is like 90% of the rest you will more than likely have registry problems. These problems can often appear as annoying error messages or in more serious cases, they may appear as random shut downs, restarts, or even worse preventing Windows from loading. Registry problems will get far worse over time which can usually explain why Windows machines always appear to slow down over time.
Many people automatically think that a slow computer is caused by a lack of hard disk space, viruses, or even computer age. When in reality the Windows Registry is often to blame. Lets take a look at what the registry is, what it does, and how to repair it.
What is the 'registry'?
The Windows registry is a directory which stores settings and options for the operating system for Microsoft Windows 32-bit versions, 64-bit versions and Windows Mobile. It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, users, preferences of the PC, etc.
Whenever a user makes changes to Control Panel settings, file associations, system policies, or most installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in the registry. The registry also provides a window into the operation of the kernel, exposing runtime information such as performance counters and currently active hardware.
The registry is "the man behind the curtain" for your windows computer. It is responsible for carrying out both small and large tasks alike. If it is not running properly errors will often come as a result.
When Should I perform an Automated Registry Scan?
A windows registry scan is called for if you encounter any of these problems:
1. You computer is sluggish - it may take forever to boot up, or it may just get hung up while performing simple tasks.
2. You get startup errors - errors saying "missing .dll" or "file not found" are common symptoms of registry related problems.
3. Blue Screens 0f Death - if you receive a blue "STOP error" screen, you more than likely have a severe registry problem.
4. Some programs will not open - if some or all of your application refuse to start and produce errors, the registry is often to blame.
If any of the above problems are occurring frequently, your best option would be to run a windows registry scan .
on your system.
How Windows Registry Scanners Work
Registry scanners take the trouble and frustration out of registry repair. These scanners scour the entire registries in order to find old and outdated information. The antiquated information is often the remnance of uninstalled software, old documents, and other items which are no longer neccessary. These items are no longer needed and will often be the cause of various computer problems.
Tracking these files down manually would be a daunting task indeed. If you were to make even one wrong move it could cost you dearly. In many instances a failed manual registry repair attempt can lead to bigger problems down the road. Let the software handle this task for you.
We strongly recommend using RegCure to scan, backup and repair your registry automatically (and quickly).
